About the mine

As of 1 January 2023, the Borynia-Zofiówka Coal Mine was subordinated to the Jastrzębie-Bzie Coal Mine as the Bzie Section. This way, a new mine was created under the name KWK Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie.

The Borynia Mine was constructed between 1962 and 1971. The deposit is located in the area of Mszana, Świerklany, Pawłowice and Jastrzębie-Zdrój.

The Zofiówka Mine was built between 1962 and 1969. Administratively, it is located within Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Pawłowice and Mszana. In 1974 the name of the mine was changed from KWK Zofiówka to KWK Manifest Lipcowy. In 1990 the original name was restored and three years later the mine became part of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa.

The Jastrzębie-Bzie Mine opened in 2021. This is the largest investment in the Polish mining industry for over 20 years. In July 2007, the drilling of a exploratory borehole in the Bzie Dębina 1 Zachód deposit started. Two years later, the construction of the new shaft 1-Bzie began. The project was completed in 2019. The first longwall at the mine was commissioned in March 2022. Estimated coal reserves reach 180 million tons.

The mining area of the Zofiówka deposit is 16.4 km2, while the recoverable reserves amount to 50.9 million tons. Type of coal produced: 35.2
