Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Szybów S.A. with its registered office in Tarnowskie Góry was established in 1945. It was created by the Government Representative under the name of Budowa Szybów i Roboty Górnicze (Shaft Construction and Mining Works) with headquarters in Bytom and was a member of the Association of Drilling and Mining Companies in Katowice.
For the first 45 years of activity, it was one of many ventures in the Polish coal industry. The changes that is underwent over the years were caused by transformations of its senior entities – associations, societies and guilds. It was only in March 1990 that it was subordinated directly to the Ministry of Industry. That was the beginning of its independent operations in the free market economy. In 1993, the company joined the Universal Privatization Program (PPP) and on 1 February 1995 it was transformed into a wholly-owned State Treasury company. The company’s shares were divided between the national Investment Funds, the State Treasury and the employees. Since that time, oversight over the company’s activity was exercised by its Supervisory Board. In 2003, the owner and the main shareholder changed following changes in the shareholding.
