360 JSW Mines

The “3600 Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa Mines” app, which was launched on our website in mid-March this year, is enjoying unflagging popularity. It has already recorded approx. 28,000 views, including 2,400 using VR goggles.

Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa is the first company in Poland to showcase its mines using an IT environment produced with the “360 VR video” technology on such a scale. Many people return to the app to learn about more interesting sites and objects in the company's mines. Educational materials, such as photos, videos and trivia about the mine life, as well as information about the hazards in the mines, are also in high demand. With its English language version, the app has reached 54 countries from the remotest corners of the world.

The use of a 360image capture camera - as opposed to a traditional film - puts the observer in the center of events. The app offers a several-hour-long virtual tour based on a pre-defined scenario. Using a computer mouse or touchpad, you can explore the mine on your own, selecting places of interest and the direction of the tour from a menu. With the help of a voiceover, you can assimilate the educational materials you encounter along the route. Using the app with VR goggles provides an additional experience and close contact with the mine life. Thanks to the “360 VR video” technology, it is possible to look around and move forward or backward along a chosen route.

It is worth noting that during the June meeting of the Commission on Risks in Mines, the app was discussed and recommended as a useful tool for students of technical universities with a mining profile, including the Silesian University of Technology and the AGH University of Science and Technology.
