The hall in Jastrzębie was visited more than 200 people willing to donate blood.
– All the structures of the entire “Solidarity” Śląsko-Dąbrowski Region were involved in the blood drive. Today, this campaign is held in Jastrzębie-Zdrój and in Katowice and tomorrow we would like to invite everyone to Rybnik and Dąbrowa Górnicza. We live in the times of pandemic and this is why the 40-year anniversary of “Solidarity” had to be severely limited. We reached a conclusion that a blood drive would be the best way to celebrate the anniversary. We never expected such a great response and I would like to thank all the people involved from the bottom of my heart – said Danuta Jemioło, manager of Solidarity’s Śląsko-Dąbrowski field office in Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
Blood was donated primarily by Solidarity members, which included, among others, employees of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, Voivodship Specialist Hospital No. 2 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, “Nowa” Housing Cooperative and employees of the local prison. - Every opportunity is good to help the other person. We know that blood cannot be produced, so we need to help each other by donating it during blood drives – said Rafał Śliwa, an employee of KWK Pniówek.
Most of the donors work for Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa. This is the third campaign, in which miners from JSW eagerly take part.
- Miners have been, are and will be the foundation of not only blood donation but also security in the region. The miners have approached this consciously. We solidarize with those who are in need; this is the first of our duties. JSW stands firmly behind the whole series of celebrations of the 40th anniversary of "Solidarity". We are really committed to spreading knowledge about the Jastrzębie Agreement to make sure it is remembered and the role of our miners is duly appreciated. This is where history was created; this was one of Poland’s routes to independence. I believe that today’s campaign, 40 liters of blood for 40 years of Solidarity, is the best way to celebrate this important anniversary during the pandemic – said Artur Dyczko, JSW Vice-President for Technical and Operational Matters.
Gizela Kowol, director of the Regional Blood Donation and Treatment Center in Racibórz emphasized that all the blood drives organized together with JSW were successful. – More than one thousand people took part in all those drivers, including the one today, who donated about 450 liters of blood. This is a very impressive result. It shows that we can always count on miners. Thank you very much, because blood is the most valuable gift and the miners are perfectly aware of this fact – said Gizela Kowol, director of the Regional Blood Donation and Treatment Center in Racibórz.
