The venue was selected on purpose, since both the excellent athletes made the first steps of their illustrious volleyball careers in Lublin, and won their first Polish Championships medal while playing for the local Avia Świdnik. The celebration of two players still so well remembered by the fans featured many of their friends from the courts, their former coaches and colleagues, including those from the very national team they played for when reaching their greatest triumphs. Among those who came to Lublin were coach Władysław Pałaszewski, with whom both Łasko and Wójtowicz had their biggest successes; Andrzej Warych, the assistant coach for the World Champions national team from 1974; Olympic champion Włodzimierz Sadalski; former partners from Gwardia Wrocław: Ireneusz Kłos and Tomasz Swędrowski; colleagues from Avia; representatives of Lublin volleyball organisations; and a number of other eminent guests.
Both of the celebrated Olympic champions were unable to hide their how emotional they were about this chance to meet their old friends and colleagues, as well as the volleyball-hungry Lublin fans – who filled out the Globus Hall to the last seat.
An added sporting attraction to the Lublin gala was a match between two of Poland's top teams: the FIVB World Cup runners-up, Jastrzębski Węgiel, and the current Polish champions, Skra Bełchatów. The game was additionally spiced up by the fact that the two teams were scheduled to play each other again, several days later, in the playoffs for the finals of the Polish PlusLiga. The match provided the four-thousand strong and – no less importantly – a very sporting audience with plenty of emotion, since despite the game’s friendly character, the teams approached it very seriously and delivered a thrilling competition. In the end, the five-set match went to Skra, with a final result of 3:2 (25:22, 26:28, 20:25, 25:20, 17:15).
