- The situation is serious. In the JSW mines, we already have 63 COVID-19 cases and more than 270 employees are in quarantine. The company is doing everything to limit the spread of coronavirus among the staff, so we are appealing to our employees to stay at home after work. They must strictly abide by the recommendations of the mine management and the JSW Crisis Management Team. This is the only way that we can minimize the risk of infection - says Artur Dyczko, head of the JSW Crisis Management Team.
The infection of 63 employees has been already confirmed. 59 of them are working in the Pniówek Mine, 2 in the Zofiówka Section and 2 others in the Jastrzębie-Bzie Mine. On Thursday, May 7th, screening tests of miners began in the Pniówek mine. Nearly 400 people were tested on Thursday and Friday and the results are not known yet. Additional groups of employees will be summoned for testing on Saturday (May 9th) and Sunday (May 10th). The extent of testing of JSW employees will be adjusted based on how the situation will develop. The JSW Crisis Management Team appeals to employees to abide by the recommendations issued on an ongoing basis by heads of the Company’s units.
- I am asking all employees of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa to exercise special care outside of work. Take care of yourself, stay safe, because this is how you will keep your families and your colleagues safe. Observe the recommendations that were in effect during the period of intensive fight with the threat of the disease – appeals Włodzimierz Hereźniak, President of the JSW Management Board. - Safety of our employees is our priority, but without responsible conduct of our staff we will not be able to limit the effects of the pandemic – President Hereźniak adds.
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa has observed the procedures to mitigate the risk of coronavirus infection since March. They are consistent with the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the Polish Ministry of Health. The JSW Crisis Management Team has taken numerous measures to protect employees. The number of people in the elevators going underground and back to the surface was reduced. Miners are using protective masks and glasses not only at their workstations but also on their way and back. JSW purchased reusable masks for every employee. Critical locations, such as the shower room, mine lamp distribution area, the pithead, the main circulation routes and mine elevators are disinfected regularly. The underground trains and train stations are also decontaminated. Employees entering the mines have their temperature taken daily. The work of mine crews has been organized in such a way as to limit contact between employees working on different shifts. The Company has taken all available measures to minimize the risk of infection.
