Drilling more boreholes commences

The drilling of new research boreholes from the surface has commenced in the “Bzie-Dębina 2-Zachód” mining area. In this way Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa is extending the scope of work to secure access to coking coal resources in subsequent years.

The geological information obtained during the tunneling of underground mining pits and sinking the Bzie shaft 1 more deeply have made it possible to gain more detailed information about the structure of this new deposit. There are great plans for this deposit as it has been incorporated in JSW’s new strategy. For the “Bzie-Dębina 2-Zachód” to be able to contribute to the Company’s development, we must gain precise data concerning the thickness of its coal seams and the coal quality. “Our strategy calls for gaining access to new coking coal deposits. Let’s remember that having a rich resource base determines the value of every commodity company; that is why it is so important to continue enlarging that base”, clarifies Daniel Ozon, CEO of JSW.

In June of this year the JSW Management Board made the decision to drill five research boreholes from the surface, with each one having a depth of 1,300 meters. “To confirm the very high quality of coal prior to reaching the parcels to be mined from the underground mining pits, it is necessary to drill research boreholes from the surface. The results will assist us in interpreting the structure of the deposit and in facilitating the verification of the directions currently defined for future mining operations”, explains Artur Dyczko, Vice-President of the Management Board responsible for Strategy and Development at JSW. He adds: “We are using the very best tools to gain certainty regarding the quality and parameters of the deposit.

This week the drilling of the first three boreholes commenced. According to the schedule, drilling will be underway in November on all five boreholes. According to plan, the drilling should be completed in Q1 2019.
