Dusting in mines

Reduction of diffuse dust pollution in coal preparation plants. This is the subject of the seminar held at the AGH University of Science and Technology on the initiative of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa’s Coal Processing and Quality Department.

The seminar was organized in the JSW Lecture Hall at the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering of the AGH University of Science and Technology. The event, chaired by Prof. Barbara Tora PhD hab. Eng., was attended by scientists, students and representatives of mining companies, including Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, LW Bogdanka, and Tauron plants. Everybody was involved in the discussion on occupational safety and elimination of secondary dust emissions into the air.

During the conference the participants paid special attention to the features of dust pollution and its impact on the work environment, including occurrence of dust hazards. Modern products and solutions were presented, including the sprinkling and dust control systems used in LW Bogdanka’s mines.

A representative of the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology presented the wet dust control solutions applied in mines and Bogdanka’s representative talked about the dry dedusting systems used in their mine. The Fuchs Group presented modern surface dust control measures and systems used in the US for preventing secondary dust pollution caused by coal transport.

The seminar was attended by 40 participants. This was another expert meeting held in the modern JSW Lecture Hall which has been fully renovated and equipped by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa. All this is part of a joint research program launched in cooperation with the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.
