Mining looks boldly into the future

A very interesting discussion panel, 4 thematic sessions, 20 papers presented by scientists from the AGH University of Science and Technology, employees of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and JSW Szkolenie i Górnictwo, and over 8 hours of live broadcast. That is, in a nutshell, the 2-day Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering AGH University of Science and Technology under the title “Mining – let’s start our tomorrow already today” which ended today. The co-organizers of the event included JSW, JSW Szkolenie i Górnictwo and JSW IT Systems.

On the second day of the Conference, the main topic of the first panel was circular economy. This is a very important topic for mining companies due to the high environmental and social standards involved. For a few years JSW has been successively reducing the quantity of waste, among others, through optimizing the production cycle in the coal preparation plants and sustainable use of resources.

The second panel discussion focused on the Integrated Qualifications System in the Mining Industry. This is a solution aimed at improving the level of human capital, defining the rules and standards for confirmation of qualifications, thus ensuring their high quality. The system supports constant development and helps employers recognize the value of the employee and invest in the professional development of their staff. This is a very important issue for mine employees in the context of the constant development of the mining industry.

The conference was closed by a discussion panel entitled “We look into the future of the mining industry”. The panelists included: professor Antoni Tajduś, former rector of the AGH University of Science and Technology, professor Marek Cała, dean of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering at the AGH University of Science and Technology, professor Stanisław Prusek, director of the Central Mining Institute, professor Dariusz Protasiński, director of KOMAG and Artur Dyczko, acting CEO of JSW. During the lively discussion the panelists pointed out that despite the numerous problems we face in the Polish mining, the industry will defend itself. They pointed to the coking coal, which has been listed in the EU list of critical raw materials. JSW has one billion tons of this coal in its resources and this offers a great opportunity for the Company. – We are bound to succeed – said Artur Dyczko, acting CEO of JSW. – This is conditional upon consistent execution of the assumptions of our strategy – added Artur Dyczko. Everybody agreed that mining must move towards the green deal and be committed to development of clean coal technologies. Mining – equipped with innovative solutions which will allow it to optimize costs and improve safety in the increasingly deep mines – will so fine. A lot was said about methane, whose capture and usage for business purposes puts JSW on the shortest course towards green deal targets.
