The first day of the Conference was devoted to issues associated with geomechanical hazards and energy efficiency in JSW mines.  10 papers were presented during 2 thematic sessions. The two sessions were moderated by Artur Dyczko, acting CEO of JSW and professor Marek Cała, dean of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.

The papers included a presentation of the innovative method of automatic monitoring of corridor mine workings on the example of the PW-1 roadway in the Pniówek mine. This was the first fully monitored roadway in Polish mining. In addition, engineers from Pniówek presented diagrams of the supports used in the mine, depending on the mining and geological conditions. Engineers from the Knurów-Szczygłowice mine, in turn, presented the outcome of the project under the name “Optimization of the corridor working support systems” executed jointly with the AGH University of Science and Technology.  Also the paper entitled “Methane and power industry, Together in JSW” devoted to usage of methane for business purposes was extremely interesting. JSW is a leader in the usage of methane for production of electricity. Thanks to that JSW saves on purchase of electricity from external entities and significantly reduces greenhouse gas, i.e. methane, emissions. At the end of the first day of the Conference its participants saw a presentation on a topic where mining is only at the crawling stage, i.e.“Digitization in mining – directions, trends and opportunities”. Modern mining collects huge quantities of data that need to be analyzed and skillfully utilized to make the industry more efficient and safe. 

Tomorrow, during the second day of the Conference, 10 more papers will be presented in 2 panels: “Circular economy” and “Qualifications in the mining industry”. The discussion panel devoted to the future of the mining industry promises to be very interesting. We invite you to take part in the second day of the Conference.​
