It is worth mentioning that Adam Oleś - mining geologist by training, but also a great jazz musician - has recorded an album, which is a return towards the Silesian roots. Album "hurdu, hurdu" is based on the traditional folk songs in the new jazz arrangements. The songs are featured by Radostowianki folk group.
The album took third place in the competition for Folk Phonogram of the Year. All the music groups that act in Poland and perform music inspired by the musical traditions of the world could participate in the rivarly.
The prize has been awarded by the jury composed of Darius Anaszko (etno.serpent.pl portal), Andrew Cronshaw (musician, journalist), Bartek Chaciński (Polityka, Program 2 PR), Tomasz Janas (freelance journalist) and Piotr Kędziorek (Radio Center for Folk Culture , program 2 PR).
It is worth adding that Adam Oleś album is also taking part in the “Wirtu@lne Gęśle” competition, which selects the best folk album of the year 2012. We encourage all of you to vote! You can place your verdict till 27 April.
Adam Oleś has been associated with JSW Coal Company for 17 years. For 14 years he worked at Krupiński mine and is now employed in the Management Board Office of the Company in the Mine Expansion Planning Team.
As a cellist he has played with many famous jazz musicians, including: Grzegorz Karnas (singer), Michał Tokaj (pianist, winner of the "Frederick"), Sebastian Frankiewicz (drums), Tomasz Kałwak (sound designer), Jarosław Bester (accordion), Radosław Nowicki (saxophonist), Dominik Wania (piano), Paweł Dobrowolski (drums), and jazz vocalists: Grażyna Auguścik, Aga Zaryan and with Kasia Kowalska.
