JSW for Organ Transplantation

Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa joined a sports and educational action supporting the development of organ transplantations. This Saturday (25 February 2012) in Wisła, stars, journalists and sportspeople after transplantation will compete for the second time in cross-country skiing. This sports and educational initiative supports the development of organ transplantations.

“SNOW SPORT SHOW” is a social project initiated in 2011 by Przemek Saleta – a sportsman, ambassador of physical activity and promoter of transplantation medicine.

The main objective of the action is raising social support for transplantation medicine, popularisation of the “Declarations of intent”, and breaking social and psychological barriers connected with conscious organ donations, which will contribute to the increase of the number of organs for transplantation. “The intention of the project is also to stress the importance of physical activity among people after transplantations,” says Przemysław Saleta. “Sport can be a recipe for full recovery after the excision of an organ for family transplantation, just as in my case, or after transplantation. It is wonderful that we meet in Wisła again. For me the joy is even bigger because our idea takes a heavy toll, so that we have a lot of people around us convinced that our activity is good. A circle of true friends who want to promote the “Race for New Life” (Bieg po Nowe Życie) together with us. And I don’t mean only the persons known from the television but all the people who are engaged in the SNOW SPORT SHOW project simply because of their hearts’ needs. A year ago I said that by donating your organ to a relative you don’t miss anything from your life – to the contrary: you bring the recipient back to a normal life. And you still can practise sports with big success. I want to repeat this sentence also today.”

The first edition of Snow Sport Show took place on 5 March 2011 in Wisła. The sport struggle consisted of participation in a cross-country ski race “I run for a new life”. People who had undergone transplantation and successfully returned to a good condition, mainly, as they say, thanks to physical activity and sports passion, met on the race track. They were accompanied by representatives of artistic circles, actors, musicians, TV presenters, journalists, and also representatives of companies – project partners.

On 25 February 2012, Wisła will be hosting: Przemek Saleta, Paweł Kukiz, Joanna Jabłczyńska, Jarosław Jakimowicz, Tomek Iwan, Mateusz Borek, Jerzy Mielewski, Rafał Bryndal, and a large group of people after organ transplantations, associated in the Polish Transplant Sports Association. “This will be a really strong representation of actors, musicians and journalists, however I will not reveal several names yet – let this be our little secret," adds Przemek Saleta.

The President of the Republic of Poland – Bronisław Komorowski, who awarded the best teams of the first edition of SNOW SPORT SHOW on the Wisła market square, said: “Race for New Life” means that Wisła hosts a wonderful sports event aimed at making everyone sensitive to organ transplantation issues. It shows that people who experienced transplantation can realise themselves in sports.”

We encourage all employees of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, as well as other interested persons, to give their support to the event!

The race starts at noon on Saturday. The official decoration is scheduled to start around 2.15 pm, when the victorious teams will be awarded by Bronisław Komorowski, the President of the Republic of Poland.
