JSW Group once again appreciated by Responsible Business Forum experts

The Responsible Business Forum has presented the 18th edition of the Report “Responsible business in Poland. Best practices.” It is Poland’s biggest review of corporate social responsibility activities with a record number of initiatives. Once again, Responsible Business Forum experts appreciated the activity of the JSW Group. This time, the Report listed 3 projects: JSW Knowledge Mine, “Let’s save the bees – they can live among us”, and the invitation extended by JSW Innowacje and Industrial Development Academy for pupils to take part in inspiring cooperation.

The JSW Knowledge Mine is a flagship, proprietary social engagement project of the JSW Group. This is a unique initiative addressed to children and youths, executed with their participation, i.e. creative ideas, social initiatives and activities towards improvement of the surrounding world. The Knowledge Mine aims to bring together, develop, inspire and bring a lot of fun to participants in the projects executed under the initiative. The goal of event animators is to make children excited about learning, experiencing and discovering the natural laws of the world. The project is to support the development of talents among children and provide equal opportunities in access to modern and exciting forms of extra-curricular activity.

The authors of the Report did not fail to notice that on the sites adjacent to the active Borynia Section mine the Company initiated a pilot program for environmental development of industrial areas, creating an apiary. JSW has decided not only to build beehives and populate them with bee families and, with the support of beekeepers, produce honey, but also to launch an educational program. As part of these activities, following the completion of the investment part and launch of the apiary with an educational path for the young ones, local schools took part in a City Game. This way the youths, in addition to the knowledge they learned about bees, also got to know the history and geography of the nearest vicinity. Children and youths could also write an article devoted to protection of bees and take part in a theme contest announced by National Geographic Kids.

As was pointed out in the Report, JSW Innowacje, a JSW Group company, and the Industrial Development Academy, invited the Silesian School of Technology in Katowice to take part in the pilot program. For 6 months, 28 pupils could, among others, participate in creative thinking workshops, held at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. In addition to the so-called design thinking, key role in the project was played by the communication and e-learning application: Young Industry.

In the 18th edition of the Report “Responsible business in Poland. Best practices”, 1,696 best practices were published (1,549 in the previous edition) submitted by 214 companies (229 in the previous edition). It is noteworthy that in connection with limiting the possibility of submitting new practices, their number dropped from 826 to 712. However the number of long-term practices increased – 983 compared to 723 practices in the previous edition of the publication. 55 companies come from the small and medium-sized enterprise sector. The industries with the best representation included: finance, services and commerce.

The Responsible Business Forum responsible for preparation of the Report is an expert organization, being an initiator and partner of projects of key importance for the Polish CSR. It inspires the business that changes the world and brings together people who change the business, as well as works towards sustainable development.
