JSW present at the Global Carbon Congress

Without coking coal, a green transition is impossible, and the use of local raw materials is essential for building stable, predictable and resilient supply chains - these were the main theses of Sebastian Bartos, Vice-President of the Management Board for Sales, speaking at the Global Carbon Congress.

The Carbon Congress is an annual event dedicated to the coal industry: coal producers, coal buyers, as well as traders and shippers. Participants include representatives of key companies from Asia, America, Australia and Europe.

- The green transition will require huge amounts of steel, and the blast furnace process using coke still remains the most efficient and cheapest technology for its production. The JSW Group, as the only major local producer of coking coal and one of the largest independent suppliers of coke, is a guarantor of stable supplies to key European steelmakers - Sebastian Bartos argued.

Coking coal is one of the key raw materials of the supply chain for the development of renewable energy technologies. Only 2 percent of the raw materials for wind power development and 4 percent for solar power come from the European Union. China plays a dominant role in both, and coking coal, considered a critical raw material in the EU, is one of the few raw materials available locally in the EU.

According to European Commission data, Poland's share of coking coal supplies to the EU market is 26 percent. The JSW Group is and will continue to be a stable and secure supplier of coking coal for steel production based on the blast furnace process, which will be modernized, but not completely excluded.
