Gala was held on Friday (November 15) at Rybnik Theatre. Black Diamonds are being granted for 15 years by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Industrial Area in Rybnik to companies and institutions which have contributed significantly to the development of the region and the province. President Zagórowski received the prize for his contribution to the development of the Polish mining industry and company’s IPO.
- This success is thanks to great people I have met in my life. I could benefit from their expertise and support. Today I would like to express my indebtedness to all those who educated me, helped me, gave advice and were patient with me. Many of these people are here on stage and in the hall. Thank you all - said President Zagórowski after receiving the award. In addition to the President of JSW, special awards - Black Diamond 2013 went to: Rector of the Silesian University professor Wiesław Banyś and Director of the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Katowice Kazimierz Szabla.
The jury decides who receives the Black Diamonds and it consists, among others of previous winners of the prize. One of those is President of the Regional Mining Office Piotr Litwa.
- Jarosław Zagórowski proved more than once that he is a real manager that can lead the company not only in good times but also during the sudden downturn in the market. For me especially valuable JSW achievements under his leadership are improving the working conditions of miners and implementing innovative solutions. I acknowledge that these tasks are accomplished with very high hazards in mines, especially when it comes to methane, gas and rock outbursts and fire - said Piotr Litwa.
Representatives of business and government received the Black Diamonds 2013. Statuettes were given to: Azis Mining Service from Jastrzębie, Budwak from Rybnik, Elgór + Zamet from Piekary Śląskie, Mazur construction company from Jankowice, Andrzej Paszenda’s Zupil and Rydultowy-Anna coal mine. In the local governments category two cities received the prize, namely Jastrzębie - Zdrój and Rydultowy. Black Diamond statues were handed by: prof. Jerzy Buzek, Andrzej Żylak Tadeusz Donocik, President of the State Mining Authority Piotr Litwa, chief executive of the Central Mining Institute professor Józef Dubiński and province governor deputy - Piotr Spyra.
