Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa has donated modern medical equipment to the Pediatric Intensive Care Ward and the General Surgery Ward at the Voivodeship Specialist Hospital No. 2 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój.

- JSW has been supporting the Voivodeship Specialist Hospital No. 2 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój for many years. Our assistance is a testament to how seriously we approach the ideas of Corporate Social Responsibility. I am sure that this equipment will serve well the residents of the region, including our employees and their families - said Tomasz Cudny, President of the JSW SA Management Board.

With the new equipment, the hospital’s surgeons will be able to more precisely perform a full range of laparoscopic surgeries, including intestinal oncologic surgery. For the patients, this means less invasive procedures and faster recovery. The laparoscopic tower itself is equipped with state-of-the-art tools, such as a Full HD camera with advanced CMOS Chip technology generating realistic images, or an insufflator with a smoke evacuation system.

- The laparoscopic technique offers a significant improvement of the patient’s comfort, mainly by reducing the time of hospitalization and recovery to the minimum. Obviously, we also need skills. Our ward is one of 9 surgical facilities in Poland participating in the training program where, under the guidance of Professor Andrzej Budzyński PhD (hab), we improve our skills in minimally invasive surgical techniques – says Artur Ploch, the physician managing the General Surgery Ward of the WSS Hospital No. 2 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój.

Modern equipment was donated also to the pediatric intensive care ward, which focuses on the treatment of the newborn, premature infants, who need assistance due to very serious health conditions. The body temperature control apparatus will improve health and save lives of the youngest children.

- It allows us to control a patient’s body temperature quickly and gradually. It is used to perform a procedure, in which an infant’s body and brain is cooled to about 34 degrees Celsius. A process like this may reduce the neurological effects of perinatal hypoxia - said Józef Danek, a physician managing the Pediatric Intensive Care Ward, director for treatment at the WSS Hospital No. 2.

- We would like to express our gratitude to Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa for its many years of help for the hospital. Without support of our donors, we would not be able to introduce these technologies. The equipment we received will work for many years and help numerous patients - summarized Robert Rychel, director of WSS No. 2.
