The rescue workers have reached the intersection of the H-10 and H-2 mining pits.
Water is still being pumped out of the flooded area, into which water continues to flow from the rock mass. Even so, the rim of the water surface has receded by 12 meters since yesterday.
Rescue workers wearing specialist watertight suits are penetrating the intersection of these two mining pits.
The pumping operation is being conducted with the use of pumps powered by compressed air.
As we reported previously, the receding water surface has released methane whose concentration in the atmosphere hinders us from using an electric pump. The equipment is on site and is ready to operate.
We will report on the rescue operation’s progress in the next release.
