-Shaft I Bzie is a guarantee of Borynia- Zofiówka-Jastrzębie mine and JSW development. A new shaft will allow us to reach some of the largest deposits of coking coal in Europe - said Józef Pawlinów, Vice- President of JSW.
Agreement on the shaft sinking was signed in 2009 and in December 2010 the drilling began. JSW paid for the investment over PLN300 million, while the cost of Bzie 1 sinking amounted to about 250 million.
- It was the first shaft sunk since more than twenty years in Silesia. We are pleased that together with Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa we were able to bring the investment to a successful end - said Janusz Olszewski,Vice- President of Kopex PBSz.
Shaft 1 Bzie will allow us to reach some of the largest deposits of coking coal type hard 35.2 in Europe - Bzie-Dębina 2-West and Bzie-Debina 1-West. The size of balance resources occurring in these deposits is estimated at over 300 million tones. Thanks to the access to deposits, Borynia- Zofiówka-Jastrzębie mine longevity and development will be extended at least until the year 2051. Shaft 1 Bzie is already connected to the excavations of Zofiówka Site at the level 1110. Thanks to this, Zofiówka Site gained the necessary ventilation which will allow to carry out preparatory work smoothly and especially operating works in the seam N 505/1, which in 2018 is expected to start operation of the first wall.
