The subject of the program is a response to the contemporary needs of the mining industry and the Company's current challenges associated with the processes of transformation of the sector and changes in the legal - organizational conditions for mining. Cooperation of the signatories will facilitate the implementation of joint research and development of JSW SA and GIG in the implementation of new technologies, to increase the efficiency and safety of mining operations, the implementation of effective methods and technologies to support processes of post-mining land reclamation and disposal and waste management in accordance with the principles of the circular economy. Research will also cover the issues of identification and valorization of degraded mining areas and developing plans to restore them to the economic cycle and reducing the negative impact of mining activities on the environment.
- A very important part of the research program is to increase the effective production of coking coal through the implementation of modern and safe technologies of mining operations, taking into account their optimal effect on the environment - said Daniel Ozon, CEO of JSW SA. - The objectives of the program are consistent with the JSW strategy created for the years 2018-2030, which aims to build the company's position as a European market leader resistant to temporary fluctuations.
The main objectives of the research program will include in particular the development and implementation of coal mining systems with the use of roof bolting and continuous miners.
The research program will also focus on the development of roadways drilling technology, using roof bolting and the steep seams mining. An important goal of the research program will also be development of a long-term revitalization program after KWK Krupiński will have completed its activities.
- The signed document paves the way for further work to develop common solutions to increase innovation and productivity at JSW. Central Mining Institute wants to share its enormous intellectual and scientific potential, knowledge and experience - said prof. dr. Stanislaw Prusek, General Director of the Central Mining Institute. - I am convinced that the cooperation initiated today will result in concrete solutions, which will be beneficial not only for the largest producer of coking coal in the EU, but also for the whole industry and the local community.
Cooperation between the Central Mining Institute and Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa is the next stage of activities initiated by the Ministry of Energy.
- Closer ties between the economy and science are very important in the context of the challenges facing the economy, especially the restructuring of the coal industry. For Polish mining to be modern and efficiently operated, coal companies must work closely with research centers - argues the deputy minister of energy Grzegorz Tobiszowski.
By May Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and the Central Mining Institute will prepare the aims and agenda of cooperation activities.
