Cooperation agreement

Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and the University of Economics in Katowice are parties to the cooperation agreement signed in Katowice today (11 October). This is the result of 5 years of cooperation, which will now be significantly expanded.

The demand for qualified staff, on the one hand, and the need for close cooperation with the business community, on the other, lie at the root of the agreement that regulates the existing contacts between the parties and sets new directions. – We highly value the cooperation with the University of Economics in Katowice, one of the leading universities in Poland. An important role in this cooperation is played by the Rybnik Branch. It is there where our employees gain qualifications and expand their knowledge required to work in a company focusing on modernity. You can't build competent work teams without leaders who can implement the latest scientific achievements. In the JSW Group we also employ numerous graduates of the University of Economics in Katowice. Close cooperation allows us to leverage the potential of the university and all the companies that make up the JSW Group – said Artur Wojtków, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Employment and Social Policy.

The agreement pertains to, among other things, support for the process of profiling and enriching specialized teaching curricula, with special focus on the practical-profile fields of study offered by the Rybnik Branch, initiation and joint organization of meetings and conferences to strengthen the cooperation between theoreticians and practitioners; strengthening the professional development of students of practical courses, including, among others: mentoring during the writing of the diploma dissertation, provided by an employee appointed by JSW S.A.; including in the teaching offer and research programs the areas, courses and topics agreed upon jointly with JSW for cooperation in modernizing the teaching process, including the secondment by JSW management of employees who are also qualified to teach selected specialized classes at the University; cooperation in using the University's teaching experience and scientific achievements for the performance of tasks within the Company's scope of operations, including in the form of commercialization of research results by the University. – We hope that our cooperation will translate into specific actions; we declare to provide its practical component. This includes, among others, mentoring students to help them write their dissertations, and to familiarize them with the specifics of the economics and finance of such a large company as JSW SA. We need young, talented, ambitious graduates of economic faculties in the areas of reporting, controlling, finance and economics in the company which is, after all, listed on the WIG20 index – said Robert Ostrowski, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Financial Matters.

The cooperation between the university and the company has been going on for over 5 years. Today's agreement is a confirmation of the existing cooperation and a promise of future joint activities. It is worth mentioning that during the last 10 years, more than 60 dissertations were based on the data coming from, or were thematically related to, JSW S.A. In addition, 260 graduates of the University of Economics in Katowice (first and second degree studies and post-graduate studies) are currently employed at JSW. – The mission and strategic aim of our university is to cooperate with the environment. (...) Today's agreement demonstrates that we are in line with this area of our mission statement. I am glad that we have such close cooperation with Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, which plays a strategic role in our region – said Professor Celina M. Olszak, Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice.
