The branch received, among others, four specialist plasma collection chairs, a laptop computer for the blood collection laboratory and a stationary sealing station with wiring.
– The blood donors are mainly the residents of this town and its surrounding areas, but most of them are miners. This is why we wanted to create the best possible conditions for donating blood, to improve comfort and safety and ultimately to encourage volunteer blood donors to an even greater commitment – says Gizela Kowol, director of the Regional Center for Blood Donation and Treatment in Racibórz, emphasizing that the donation constitutes valuable support for the branch: - We would like to thank Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and the JSW Foundation. The response was beautiful and immediate and we are very happy, especially given that the technology is advancing quickly and we really need this equipment.
The equipment was officially handed over during the blood drive event coupled with collection of plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients. The blood reserve always shrinks during summer holidays and currently the coronavirus pandemic poses an additional problem. Patients with severe COVID-19 are administered plasma of recovered patients, which contains antibodies and gives them a chance to recover faster. This is why Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa decided to take an active part in the campaign for the second time.
- This campaign has exceeded our wildest expectations. I am really happy and proud to see that our appeal was heard and that the Company’s employees understand the need to donate blood. This is our gift to others, irrespective of their place of residence – says Artur Dyczko, Vice-President of the Management Board for Technical and Operational Manners and President of the JSW Foundation, adding: - I am proud of the responsibility of these people. Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa has risen to the task – he summarizes.
Those who decided to donate this precious gift, say that the mere possibility of helping others is sufficient reward in itself.
- I have thought of donating blood as a volunteer blood donor for some time now. This time I was motivated by my colleagues. I am aware that blood banks are empty, miners receive lots of hate, so together we want to show others that we are not that bad – we can organize and do something for others. But primarily this is about helping others – this is what is the most important in all this – notes Martyna Szkatuła from the Jastrzębie-Bzie mine, who donated her blood for the first time.
The campaign organized by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa jointly with the Regional Blood Donation and Treatment Center in Racibórz lasted two days and proved to be record-breaking.
During this period, 508 people came to local branches and donated 176 liters of blood and 32 liters of plasma.
