In front of the plaque commemorating the fallen miners, flower bouquets were placed by Tomasz Cudny, President of the JSW Management Board, as well as representatives of the JSW Supervisory Board, mine management, trade unions and families of the deceased miners.
The cause of the tragic accident was a violent discharge of energy accumulated in the rock mass, which led to one of the strongest tremors ever recorded in Polish mines. Seven miners were trapped 900 meters underground. Two managed to be rescued, five left for eternal life. Nearly 2,500 people took part in the rescue operation, which lasted more than ten days. To this day, it is considered one of the most difficult operations in the history of Polish mining.
