The 34-year-old mine rescuer of the Krupiński coal mine got lost during the rescue operation following a methane-ignition incident that occurred on 5 May at the N-12 longwall, seams 329/1 and 329/1-2, 820 m underground.
The operation was carried out under extremely difficult conditions. The rescuer was found at 220 m in the air heading for the longwall, with a visibility of 0.5 metre. The rescuers are still working underground to secure the area of the N-12 longwall.
After the body of the missing rescuer was found, the death toll from the tragic group accident at the Krupiński coal mine rose to three. Nine miners are being hospitalised at the Centre for Burn Treatment in Siemianowice Śląskie. Two other miners, with less serious injuries, who had been taken to Provincial Specialist Hospital No. 2 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, have been discharged home.
Today, 12 May, the first meeting of a special committee appointed by the president of the State Mining Authority to investigate the causes of the accident will take place at 9am in Suszec.
