President Andrzej Duda visited the Zofiówka Section earlier and talked with the management of the rescue operation and the rescue workers.
“A moment ago, I met with the rescue workers who had just completed their work underground and they told me that the conditions there are challenging. Above all, the conditions are difficult not just because they are dealing with rubble, and there is rubble there; but it is not the case that everything has collapsed. However, above all, there is a shortage of oxygen. The methane concentration is simply very high, and work is being done there in mining gear”, stated President Andrzej Duda. “Of course, we all believe that the miners will survive and that the efforts to find them alive will be successful”, emphasized the President.
Let’s recap: the rescue operation in the Zofiówka Section has now been underway for nearly a day. As a result of a shock wave, seven miners remained underground. Two of them managed to evacuate at an early stage of the rescue operation. They are presently in the hospital in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. On Sunday the rescue workers reached another employee. Unfortunately, he did not survive this event. At present, the second miner found is being transported to the rescue workers’ base.
