Agreement signed

Earlier today, JSW Innowacje, a member of the JSW Group, signed a cooperation agreement with Węglokoks SA and Katowicka Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna SA [Katowice Special Business Zone]. One of the key objectives of the agreement is to establish a specialized entity that will deal with the comprehensive development of areas degraded by industry.

The agreement combines the capital, organizational and competence potential of some of the largest and most significant enterprises in Śląskie Voivodship with the leading role of the State Treasury in their shareholder structure. The venture is part of the assumptions of the Program for Silesia. “We collect ideas and attract young people to change the region,” said Jarosław Mrozek, CEO of JSW Innowacje during the conference.

Areas degraded by industry in Śląskie Voivodship cover an area of almost 7,000 hectares and are often located in places attractive from the business perspective. They might also become an area of effective economic mobilization of the whole region. The first task of the newly established entity will be development of areas currently owned by Huta Pokój SA in Ruda Śląska. The project has been nicknamed “New Pokój” and its objective will be the comprehensive development of the area and the release of its hidden potential. Currently, the area covers 175 hectares of land heavily degraded by past industrial operations. Huta Pokój’s facilities might also become a symbol of changes taking place in the region’s economy. The transition from traditional industries to modern solutions may be conducted in a sustainable manner, with due respect for past achievements and current needs of local residents. The establishment of the operator was envisaged in the Program for Silesia developed by the Polish government.
