Extreme Miner's Run

This past Saturday (24 June) the spectacular Miner's Run took place - a sporting event that brought together fans of extreme challenges. 1,000 JSW employees and more than 200 people from PGG and Tauron Wydobycie mines took part in the competition on the spoil tip of the Borynia Section.

On a 10-kilometer course, runners had to overcome 50 of the most varied, extreme technical obstacles requiring a lot of effort. They went through water, mud and struggled with boggy terrain. All this on the mine spoil tip of the Borynia Section.

- The first extreme Miner's Run, this is an amazing success. Few expected that so many participants would be willing to face such difficult conditions, under such unique surroundings. The participants are overjoyed - said Grzegorz Kita of Sport Management Poland, organizer of the Miner's Run.

The vast majority chose shorter variants: A 5km route with 35 obstacles and a 2.5km route for families with children. - Adults know what kind of adventure they expect, while I was surprised by the number of participants in the Family Run. 700 people, made up of families with children, is something unprecedented. They chose the Miner's Run, where they have to get dirty, running through spoil tips. After all, it's much easier to take part in a run on flat terrain. Here you have to overcome your fears and barriers. This is a great family integration experience that cannot be bought or replaced by anything - said Grzegorz Kita.

Initially, the event was reserved for employees of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, but over time employees from PGG and Tauron Wydobycie mines were also invited to compete.

- I extend my sincere congratulations to all those who took part in this challenging race. I especially congratulate the youngest participants on their fortitude and perseverance in tackling these difficult obstacles - said Łukasz Szlązak, director of the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine.

The Miner's Run is another event organized as part of the 30th anniversary of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa.

- Undoubtedly, the Miner's Run provided a lot of thrill and excitement. Everyone who came to our spoil tip had an unprecedented opportunity to see its reclamation up close and experience amazing views of the surrounding area, the Borynia mine and even the mountains. This place is spectacular - said Marcin Gołębiowski, Director for Labor at the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine.
