The conference is open and free of charge. Its leading topics include the future of mining in the challenging times and new projects and technologies aimed to face them. The organizers believe that this is an opportunity and hope for the mining industry. – To have economically viable mining, one needs to continue to evolve and adapt to the reality, said professor Dariusz Prostański, director of the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology.

And exchange of experience and dialogue in the international mining community is the aim of the conference. Its participants, apart from listening to speeches or debates, have an opportunity to ask questions through a dedicated email address, because, due to the pandemic, the whole conference is held online. There was no shortage of questions today, as the conference was attended by the representatives of all Polish mining companies, academics and engineers, and companies and institutions cooperating with the mining industry, such as the State Mining Authority and the Central Mining Institute.

Special interest was attracted by the practical aspects of the technological solutions applied underground. – There are no reasons why, despite the pandemic, our engineers should not learn interesting solutions which could be applied in our mines, bringing specific effects, says Artur Dyczko, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters. – We are interested in implementing solutions which are efficient, which can reduce our costs and which are safe for miners and reliable. They should also be long-term.

The first day of the conference was initiated by a special session devoted to the Bolter Miner, which has been working in JSW’s “Budryk” mine in Ornontowice for exactly one year. Representatives of the mines and Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Szybów, the latest acquisition of the JSW Group, shared their experience with mining experts and practitioners.

Wednesday’s debates were also devoted to innovations – i.e. mining of the future, cybersecurity and modern mining machinery and equipment control, monitoring and diagnostic systems. The conference will be continued tomorrow. The topics will include, among others, recovery of minerals, internationalization of the Polish mining-related sector and development of qualifications in mining.
